The Member States of the European Union are currently negotiating a reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS). Fundamental changes in the existing regulations and directives may be expected. The Federal Association for Unaccompanied Refugee Minors warns that the actual proposals will reverse the standard of protection for minors achieved in the EU in the last few years and largely undermine the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). Minors and their families will bear the brunt of the current disagreement among the EU states on refugee questions. At the same time, their basic right to asylum and their right to a life with dignity will be put at risk.
